# Speed Post tracking: check India Post consignment status

Checked 25 October 2026. The Government of India's Department of Posts offers an online Track N Trace service. To see where a Speed Post article has reached, you need the consignment/article number from the sender or the booking receipt. Tracking data comes from India Post, not from an independent blog.

How to track Speed Post online

1. Open the official website [indiapost.gov.in](https://www.indiapost.gov.in/). 2. Choose Track your shipment status and delivery, or look for Track N Trace / Track and Trace Services. 3. Select Consignment or Consignment ID as appropriate on the website. 4. Enter the article/consignment number on the sender's India Post receipt. For Speed Post, this is commonly a 13-character alphanumeric article identifier; copy the exact letters and digits including the ending country letters if printed. 5. Complete the on-screen captcha and run the search. 6. Review the last recorded scan, location, date and the displayed status. Keep the receipt for a support request if tracking appears incorrect.

India Post's Speed Post service information explicitly includes its Track N Trace Consignment interface, and its official site now prominently links to tracking.

Where can I find the tracking number?

Look at the booking receipt handed out by the post office, the sender's dispatch notice, or the shopping seller's shipping email. An order number from a retailer may not be the same as the India Post consignment number. Ask the sender specifically for the courier's article or consignment reference.

What do common tracking updates mean?

The precise language varies by service and processing stage. In general:

  • Booked / Accepted: the postal service has recorded the item at a booking point.
  • Dispatched: it was sent onward from a facility.
  • Received at office: a facility scanned it into the handling process.
  • Out for delivery: the item has been allocated for a delivery attempt.
  • Delivered: the tracker records delivery; if you do not have it, confirm the delivery details with the destination office.

These are general interpretations, not guarantees that a status will appear exactly as written. India Post's actual trace result and delivery rules take precedence.

No tracking information or a delayed scan?

Check that you copied the article number correctly and did not confuse an order ID with a postal ID. Ask the sender to confirm the item was actually booked, not merely labelled. Newly booked items can be waiting for their first public tracking scan; tracking details can also be delayed or temporarily unavailable.

If the item is delayed or shows delivered but has not arrived, use India Post's official Grievance Management channel from the homepage. Include your consignment number, sender and destination information, last scan and booking receipt when requested.

Beware fake Speed Post delivery messages

India Post's official website warns about fraudulent lookalike links and tells customers not to disclose OTP, banking, card, UPI or other financial details through unauthorized links. A text demanding a small re-delivery fee is not proof that you have a legitimate parcel. Navigate to the official site yourself.
