Rules for Tax year 2026–27 (FY 2026–27). Last verified: 21 Sept 2026. Source: Income-tax Act, 2025, section 202 (new regime) and Finance Bill 2026 Memorandum (no change in s.202 rates for tax year 2026–27); standard deduction carried from CBDT ITR-1 validation rules AY 2026–27.

How this is calculated

Tax is computed on slabs for the selected year, minus rebate, plus surcharge with marginal relief where modelled, plus 4% health and education cess. For salary, the standard deduction for that regime is subtracted first.

Capital-gains special rates, agricultural income, and most Chapter VI-A deductions are not modelled.

Janooji does not recommend a regime or an investment for reducing tax.

Questions

Which tax year does this use?

You choose the year. The default is tax year 2026–27 (FY 2026–27) under the Income-tax Act, 2025. FY 2025–26 / AY 2026–27 remains available so older calculations stay reproducible.

What is not modelled?

Capital-gains special rates, agricultural income, and most Chapter VI-A deductions. If a case is unsupported, the calculator says so instead of guessing.
