UIDAI's Aadhaar app supports mobile-number changes for eligible users who can verify the required mobile numbers and complete face authentication. But first-time number registration or loss of access to the old registered number still requires an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised centre. Check the latest UIDAI app FAQ.

# Can you update your Aadhaar mobile number online?

Checked 25 October 2026. Yes, in some circumstances. UIDAI's current Aadhaar app offers a Mobile Number Update service. However, the eligibility depends on your access to the old registered number. If you have never registered a mobile number or cannot receive verification on the old registered number, UIDAI says you must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or another authorised update centre. The app and the older myAadhaar website are different services; an old guide saying "all mobile updates are offline" may be out of date.

How mobile-number update works in the official Aadhaar app

1. Download the UIDAI Aadhaar app using the official links in the UIDAI FAQ (opens in a new tab). Verify publisher and application details rather than downloading a third-party APK. 2. Open the app, select language and complete Aadhaar onboarding. UIDAI describes SIM selection, face authentication and setting a six-digit PIN. 3. In the app, select Services and Mobile Number Update. 4. Follow the on-screen verification of your new number. Depending on how the app was registered, UIDAI may require OTP verification of both the old registered number and the new number. 5. Complete face authentication and pay the prescribed charges shown in the official app. Save the resulting acknowledgement/reference for tracking.

UIDAI's FAQ distinguishes two app scenarios. If you registered the app with the same mobile number as Aadhaar, the new number needs OTP verification plus face authentication. If you registered the app with a different mobile number, it says OTP verification of both the old and new numbers is required. Follow the actual app flow for your account.

Lost access to your old registered mobile number?

If the old registered number is lost, inactive or inaccessible, UIDAI says visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised enrolment/update centre. This is also the required route when registering a mobile number for the first time. Locate an official centre through UIDAI's Aadhaar update page (opens in a new tab).

Never pay a stranger who claims they can change the linked number without legitimate identity verification. You may need to show identification or complete a biometric check at the authorised centre; follow the operator's instructions and retain the acknowledgement.

Aadhaar address update is a separate service

UIDAI also lets eligible holders request address updates through the Aadhaar app or the myAadhaar web portal. For address changes, valid supporting proof of address may be required and requests are verified. Do not confuse an address-update request with updating your login mobile number.

Security checklist

Use official `uidai.gov.in` links and UIDAI's genuine app-store listing. Do not post Aadhaar numbers, OTPs, PINs or face-authentication material in public chats. If an app or agent promises “instant Aadhaar mobile change without old number, OTP or verification”, treat it as suspicious.
