# DigiLocker driving licence download: get your digital DL and RC

Its integration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) allows eligible users to fetch an official digital Driving Licence (DL) or Registration Certificate (RC) from the transport register into Issued Documents. A document issued from the government database is different from a photo of your plastic licence uploaded into cloud storage.

How to get your driving licence in DigiLocker

1. Open the official DigiLocker website (opens in a new tab) or its verified mobile app, and sign in to your account. 2. Complete the identity or Aadhaar verification requested by DigiLocker. Its official FAQ says Aadhaar linking is required for the integrated DL/RC fetch procedure. 3. In search or quick links, find Driving Licence under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways or select Get your Digital Driving License if shown. 4. Enter the DL number and the identity details requested. Your name must match the relevant Aadhaar and national transport records. 5. Request the record from the issuer. If matched, your digital driving licence will be saved under Issued Documents, where it can be viewed later. 6. For a vehicle's registration certificate, select Get your Digital Vehicle RC or the appropriate RC issuer entry and repeat the process using the requested vehicle details.

Is a DigiLocker driving licence legally valid?

An authentic issuer-issued digital DL/RC is recognised. DigiLocker's official FAQ cites MoRTH's 8 August 2018 notification, and the ministry maintains advisory notices on the legal acceptance of digital driving licences and registration certificates in DigiLocker or mParivahan. Officers can verify the issuing authority's digital record.

Important distinction: A self-uploaded image or scanned PDF in your personal DigiLocker storage is not automatically the same as the authority-issued certificate fetched under Issued Documents. Use the actual issuer-linked record where an original document is required.

“No record available in issuer database” error

DigiLocker explains that the DL/RC fetch works by reading the National Register. If your licence or registration record has not been added to that register, the system may return a No record available message. First check that you entered the exact licence or registration number and required details.

If the message persists, verify your DL/RC record on the official Parivahan website (opens in a new tab). A data correction may need the competent licensing or registration authority. DigiLocker cannot invent a missing issuer record.

“Details do not match issuer data” error

DigiLocker's FAQ says to check the name and other details against the issuer information. A difference in name spelling between Aadhaar and the transport record can block fetching. Correct mistaken inputs first; if your actual government records are inconsistent, use the legitimate update/correction process at the corresponding authority.

If DigiLocker says an Aadhaar number is already registered, try recovering the existing DigiLocker account instead of creating another one using the same Aadhaar.

DigiLocker vs mParivahan

Both can provide digital transport documents linked to the official transport databases. DigiLocker is a broad document wallet covering many issuer types; mParivahan focuses on vehicle, DL and other transport-service data. Use whichever official platform gives you the authority-issued document required.
