How is gold price quoted in India?

Janooji

Updated 21 September 2026

Janooji in 10 seconds

The number on a jewellery board is usually a 22K retail rate per 10 grams for that city, not the London spot price. Your bill then adds making charges and GST. 24K is purer and priced higher; coin and biscuit rates differ from jewellery rates.
  • 22K (916) is standard for most Indian jewellery.
  • Making charges are a jeweller's fee, often a percentage of gold value or a per-gram amount.
  • GST applies on gold value and, separately, on making charges.

Janooji will not invent today's rupee rate. When live gold is wired in, it will show a timestamp, a city, and a source.
