GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a single indirect tax that replaced many older levies. A listed price may already include GST (inclusive) or show it extra (exclusive). The rate depends on the item's HSN or SAC code — 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% are the slabs people meet most often.

If a restaurant bill says 18% GST, that 18% is calculated on the taxable value, not on a round number you guessed. For inclusive prices, the tax is already inside the sticker price.
