EPF Passbook and Claim Status: Check Your PF Balance Online
Published 20 October 2026
Check your EPF balance and passbook online
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) provides an official Member Passbook & Claim Status portal. If you are looking for a provident-fund balance, monthly contributions or a claim update, begin with the government service rather than a third-party app asking for your account details.
### How to use the EPFO passbook portal
1. Open EPFO's Member Passbook & Claim Status portal (opens in a new tab). 2. Enter your Universal Account Number (UAN), the appropriate password and the displayed captcha. 3. Sign in using the official site and select the relevant account or service available to you. 4. View the passbook information or claim-status information presented for your member record. 5. If you need a record, use a download or save option offered by the portal. Keep it private.
Your EPF contribution history can differ from the amount you expect from a payslip because updates depend on employer filings and EPFO processing. An old passbook entry does not, by itself, prove money is missing.
### Is there a Passbook Lite option?
Yes. EPFO announced Passbook Lite within its unified member portal as a simplified overview of contributions, withdrawals and balance. The organisation says members who want more complete passbook details can continue using the separate passbook portal.
The official unified member portal is unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/ (opens in a new tab). The interface may change over time, so follow the names currently displayed on that official site.
### How do I track a PF claim?
The EPFO passbook service is explicitly labelled Member Passbook & Claim Status. Use that official service or an EPFO-provided claim option in its member portal. A claim submission, acceptance and settlement are distinct stages; do not interpret an acknowledgment alone as completed payment. For a problem with your claim, use the official EPFO support channels.
### What if I cannot log in?
Check whether you have the correct UAN and use the recovery options on the official member portal. Do not pay unofficial agents to recover an account. The EPFO site warns users against people requesting Aadhaar, PAN, banking credentials, OTPs or payments over calls.
### Avoid phishing
Check the domain before entering a password. EPFO's passbook portal uses epfindia.gov.in. Do not upload a copy of your PF statement to random balance-checking sites.
